1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Local storage works similarly but persists until cleared and is not sent with every request. We use both, and we refer to them together as "cookies" throughout this policy. They let us remember your consent choice, keep the site secure and — only with your permission — understand which guides people find useful.
2. How we ask for consent
On your first visit a banner appears at the bottom of the screen offering "Accept All", "Reject Non-Essential" and "Preferences". Essential cookies are set regardless because the site cannot function without them; this is permitted under regulation 6(4) of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. Analytics and functional cookies are set only after you choose "Accept All". Your choice is stored for 12 months, after which we will ask again.

4. Third-party cookies
We do not run advertising networks, social media pixels or cross-site trackers. Our analytics provider processes data within the European Union on our behalf as a processor and does not use it for its own purposes. Some illustrative photographs on the site are served from the third-party image host picsum.photos; requests to that host may be logged by the provider but do not set tracking cookies on our behalf. External links may set their own cookies once you leave our site — those are governed by the destination site's own policy.
5. Changing your mind
To change your choice on this site, clear the csll_consent entry from your browser's site data for clipscoutlistlantern.com and reload the page; the banner will reappear and you can select a different option. Rejecting non-essential cookies does not reduce access to any content.
6. Browser opt-out instructions
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies, and Settings → Privacy and security → Delete browsing data to clear existing entries.
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data, or set Enhanced Tracking Protection to Strict.
- Safari (macOS): Safari → Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data; enable "Prevent cross-site tracking".
- Safari (iOS/iPadOS): Settings → Apps → Safari → Advanced → Website Data, or Clear History and Website Data.
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data.
- Brave / Vivaldi / other Chromium browsers: Shields or Privacy settings → Cookies, with per-site controls available from the padlock icon.
Blocking all cookies at browser level will prevent our consent record from persisting, which means the banner may reappear on every page load. Most browsers also offer a "Global Privacy Control" signal; where your browser sends it, we treat it as a rejection of non-essential cookies.
7. Legal basis and retention
Essential cookies are used on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a secure website. Analytics and functional cookies rely on your consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and the UK GDPR. Aggregated analytics data is retained for 14 months and then deleted. For a full picture of how the resulting personal data is handled, including your access and erasure rights, see our Privacy Policy.
